Nachpressung dieser US-Thrashcore Scheibe. Besser als die Mucke der Jungs find ich aber das Konzept, Texte und auftreten. Sehr witzig. Vor allem das Video auffer Cd. Spitze. Mittlerweile iss auch Bull von 400 YEARS/POLICY OF 3 dort am Bass. Ne neue split 7" soll's demnächst geben. Die cd Nachpressung wird auch hier in Europa über ein neues Label von Markus / Per Koro geben, welches er mit seinem Bremer Kollegen Jan Albin vor kurzem ins Leben gerufen hat - Assault Records. (b)

Die nächste Generation von Umea Hardcore (trademark), deutlich beeinflusst von dem was DS-13 noch mal an 80iger Jahre Hc neu verpackt ham und der Sänger hat live die gleiche Körpersprache drauf wie der von ETA. Ach ja - die Single kocht (wenn man auf Reagan Era hc mit Schweden-touch steht), live waren sie auch mit das beste was ich in den drei Wochen mit RAMBO gesehen hab. Kühler schaiss. (b)

Noch vier neue Songs der Metaler aus Toronto mit ner 7" auf DERANGED RECORDS. Ganz kommischer Mix von Metalmucke, alles drin, von Death, bis Melodic, aber saugut kombiniert der Kram. Rockt phatt und iss catchy. Meist straightforward, dann wieder etwas vertrackt, aber kein Tech a la MASTADON oder so. Cool. (b)
RAW POWER - Still Screaming LP (Six Weeks) 5.- €
Wenn ich mir den Review von Markus/Per Koro durchlese könnte man fast denken die Platte iss gut:
"Wow, nach der kürzlich wiederveröffentlichten "you are the victim" CD haben die italos eine neue Scheibe am Start. Raw Power haben HC nicht nur in ihrem Heimatland Italien definiert, sondern überall auf der Welt, und das schon seit gut & gerne 20 Jahren. Das neue Album zeigt die Band in Topform; all die Energie, Wut und Leidenschaft, die sie von Anfang an ausgezeichnet hat, konnten sie auch in ihre neuen Songs stecken. Durch und durch geradliniger, schnörkelloser HC, druckvolle Gitarrenattacken und der unnachahmliche Schreigesang, der italienischen HC-Punk zu dem gemacht hat, was er heute ist. Die schlechte Nachricht ist, dass die Band kurz nach diesen Aufnahmen ihren Gründer Guiseppe wegen eines Herzleidens verloren hat. Dieses Album ist dann wohl gleichzeitig der Abschied eines der Aushängeschilder in Sachen „altem" Euro-HC-Punk."
Find's aber leider recht langweilig, vor allem NIRVANA Cover - my ass. Hab se mal vor 10 Jahren gesehen und das war auch schon supergrotte. (b)

Das 2. Album dieser deutschen Band, die irgendwo zwischen den treibenden REFUSED von deren letzten LP und JR EWING liegt. Iss super gemacht, rockt und vor allem der Gesang iss geil. (b)
RED REACTION - s/t 7" (Coalition) 1.90 €
Die Lp und die split 7" songs ham mir schon gefallen und auch die 5 neuen Songs hier kicken Ärsche. RED REACTION kommen von der amerikanischen Ostküste, und kombinieren NEGATIVE APPROACH und STRAIGHT AHEAD mit ein paar dunkleren langsamen Parts. Textlich nihilistisch und "I think we're fucked" iss der Hit. (b)

RELIGIOUS WAR - Cracked System LP (Hardcore Holocaust) 7.50 €
Neben SEVERED HEAD OF STATE der letzte Output von Hardcore Holocaust. Erinnert mich jetzt etwas an WORLD BURNS TO DEATH, was aber eher damit zusammenhängt das der Sound recht düster und rotzig ist. Hier einer, der drauf hängen geblieben ist:
"From what I can understand this is the final release from Religious War - but this is actually the first I hear from them. At first I couldn't believe what the fuzz was all about that I'd heard. I mean, they're good, but not that good. Everyone kept praising this record so when I got this in the mail I was naturally very excited - but also very disappointed. Now here's my question for you. How stupid can one be? I don't know but apparently I'm not all there. A couple of hours ago I sat down to write this review so I threw the record on. And got completely hooked! The neighbors too I guess, judging by the volume I ended up playing it on. This shit is good, no, it's great! Driven faster mid-paced käng. Yet kinda catchy - in a more brutal way. There's a lot of frustration over this, all done with some Scandinavian, Japanese and English influences. Another winner from the state of Portland, USA and another winner in the Hardcore Holocaust and Mindcontrol archives. The cover art also looks really good. Cool drawing and with the band name and record title reflecting silver print." (b)
REMAINS OF THE DAY - Hanging On Rebellion LP (Yellow Dog) 7.50 €
"Remains Of The Day's previous album An Underlying Frequency was pretty impressive gloomy heaviness. This new one is even better. I¹m also happy to notice that on this one the band seems to have found a new channel in the dark & heavy stream. It might be surprising, but quite often, forcibly, this reminds me of Rites Of Spring. There is similar emotional charging and there are also some similarities in song structures and vocal style to be found. I guess many people who nowadays listen to the popular heavy school hc probably only sniff scornfully when they hear the word "emo". However, I'd like to remind that before people started for some reason or other to call all kind of sad plucker college rock/pop bands as emo, emo was not light and easy sissies' stuff. Neither is this record, the nearest comparison could be Tragedy meets Rites Of Spring. And it sounds magnificent. Not so much speed, but power. What also separates Remains Of The Day from other present-day representatives of heavy hardcore is the violin. When it is audible it sounds truly great. I think it¹s a pity that the violin remains so much in the shadow of the noisier instruments. I really wouldn't mind if it had a bigger part in this record. I criticized the same thing already with their previous one. The lyrics are at any rate not uncomplicated: if one wants to understand what is being driven at, one really has to stop and think. A strong, heavy, emotional, magnificent record from which one is able to find something new with time and again. This record will stand the test of time!"

Keine Live LP - Studio Aufnahmen. Hammer. Mittlerweile hat sich die belgische Band, die jedes Wochenende irgendwo anders am spielen war, aufgelöst, aber das Teil hier knallt - wesentlich mehr als der Kram vorher. Chaos Hardcore/Metal/Noise Mix, der ab und an sehr an CONVERGE erinnert. Guter Sound, coole Songs - gegenüber der Cd gibts auch noch einen mehr. Limited to 300 copies, hand silkscreened sleeves. (b)

Spielten die Holländer in der Vergangeheit eher straighten New School Hardcore, so haben auf dieser Scheibe verschiede Einflüsse Einzug gehalten. Sehr atmosphärisch geht’s gleich mit cleanen Gitarren los. Sehr gut und relaxed. Zwar sind sie ihrem alten Stil schon noch treu gebleiben, aber hier haben doch ganz klar auch NEUROSIS ihren Einfluß hinterlassen. Waren eine der besseren Bands in Ieper dieses Jahr. (b)

Viel straighter nun als die 10". Ich hoffe ihr habt sie auf der Tour im Sommer 2000 gesehen. Nun ja was soll ich sagen, super gut viele schiefe Parts und voll auf die Glocke. (r)

Nach der geilen SCARE TATICS 7" iss auch die zweite Veröffentlichung auf diesem kanadischen Label recht knorke. Das sind Leute von THEY LIVE und THE CONTROL mit nem Typ und ner Lady am Gesang - beide mit coolen Stimmen. Mucke - upspread Thrashcore. Vielleicht ne Ähnlichkeit zu THEY LIVE auf ihrer split 7" COUNTDOWN TO OBLIVIAN - weil wegen Mann/Frau Gesang - die Musik iss aber weniger INFEST, als mehr alter US Hardcore style. (b)

ROMEO IS BLEEDING - The Principle MCD (Plastic Culture) 1.- €
Und noch ne neue Band aus Frankreich. Schon sehr metallisch, aber doch mit verschieden Sounds am Start und sehr verspielt und innovativ. Ein bißchen BOTCH, ein bißchen TURMOIL, dann aber auch wieder getragener mit gut gemachten melodischen Gesangslinien. Am beim letzten Lied auch noch etwas Elektro-Kram. Mir gefällt’s recht gut, weil’s eigentlich gar nicht aufgesetz oder konstruiert wirkt, sondern recht authentisch. (b)

Aus ner durchsichtigen 10" ham die hier grad mal die Umrisse der USA rausgeschnitten und als Hintergrundpapier im Sleeve ein Feuerzueg mit der Aufschrift "Let the motherfucker Burn" - sweet. Zu hören is die neu gemasterte Version der ersten 7". Hier hat das aber wesentlich mehr Druck als zuvor. Und jo, Ruination drüften ein begriff sein: am Gesang Chris von THE SWARM, Andy von BLOODPACT an der Gitarre, am Schlagzeug Ebro von CHARLES BRONSON, MK ULTRA und LOS CRUDOS. Snotty, metalfreier Hardcore in den Fressen rein. (b)
RUNNAMUCKS - Of a different Breed LP (Six Weeks) 8.- €
Die zweite Lp von den diesem Trio aus Florida. Erste Lp war schon recht sweet, hier ham se ihren Style verfeinert. Klingt nach früh-80ziger Ami Hardcore. Coole scheidige Gitarren, Gesang erinnert mich etwas an guten Japcore, a la Jellyroll Rockheads oder CHARM, also kein Gegrunze oder Cookiemonsterstyle. Einfach rotzig und auf's Maul. (b)
RUNNAMUCKS - On the Brink LP (Kangaroo) 6.50 €
Mit den Jungs aus Florida wollte ich gerade nen kleinen Tauschdeal abwickeln, als sie mir mitgeteilt ham, dass Kangaroo ihre Lp in Europa rausbringt. Zu hören gibt's gut aufgenommenen 80iger Jahre US-Hardcore-style Thrash. Platte sieht 80ties aus, Mucke rockt 80ties. Gesang iss geil, Beats sind cool, Gitarre rotzig. Klingt jetzt abgedroschen, aber iss so - ich find's cool. (b)
