Die erste Lp. A full-on metalcore assault from these Virginia veterans. The screamy, chaotic parts then give way to some hypnotic, melodic breakdowns. Lots of cool effects on the guitars, too. Seven songs in a little under thrity minutes. (?)

MAJORITY RULE / PG 99 - split LP (Magic Bullet Records) 8.- €
Northern Virginia's PG.99 and Washington D.C's Majority Rule combine efforts and put forth nine brand new songs. This is a complex and rather explosive recording done under te simple premise of friends working together to create something that we can call our own. Listeners will be treated to the poetic and dark experimentations of pg.99 and the urgency and conviction present in every note of Majority Rule's ultra heavy sound. When tallied up, these are the sounds and the themes that goose bumps are made of. A classic split for an exciting time. (?)

MELEE - One Way Dead End 7" (Lengua Armada Discos) 3.90 €
This is their follow-up to the split records with the Cancer Kids. Their best release so far. Early 80s style hardcore with an excellent guitar sound. The songs are catchy while going full throttle at the same time. This is the record Melee will be remembered for. (?)

MIA - Lost Boys 2xLP (Alternative Tentacles) 12.- €

Classic early punk from Las Vegas' best! 37 tracks in all - includes Murder In A Foreign Place & Last Rites releases. Around 1983 M.I.A. relocated to Orange County and held their own with all the classic bands of the day, onstage and in the studio.Up north Maximum Rock'n'Roll had adopted them too, bending their own rules to make M.I.A. the only non-Bay Area band on the landmark Not So Quiet On The Western Front compilation. A normally reserved Jello Biafra offered them this labels services as soon as they walked off stage when he saw them in Las Vegas. The Murder In A Foreign Place ep was the result. It's all here; their side of the Last Rites album (originally split with another band they didn't even know would be on the record). Lost Boys also includes early demos, lost live tracks and some excellent studio demos that pre-dated their later work. The LP and CD contain 80 minutes of soaring melodic punk and hardcore with plenty of power and variety. MISERY INDEX sind Leute von DYING FETUS und der shit iss dick. Endlich hör ich jetzt auch mal STRUCTURE OF LIES. Da sind der ehemalige Gitarrist und der Drummer von UNRUH am Start. Und das iss UNRUH in noch mal ner Nummer sicker... Eingängiger und weniger vertrackte Songstruckturen, obwohl natürlich auch immer noch Tech to the max, aber jp --- eingängiger. Hammerbrutal. (b)

Die erste 7", der Band, die hier in Europa wohl grad gut abgerockt hat... Musikalisch eine etwas rockigere AMERICAN NIGHTMARE Version aber mit gleicher Power, 'ne LP soll jetzt auch demnächst kommen.

MOMENT OF YOUTH - s/t 7" (Parts Unknown) 3.- €
Irgendwie hab ich die bestellt, weil ich dachte sie wäre auf My War Records (The Snobs, Knife Fight), aber isse nun doch nicht. Obwohl: vom Sound her könnte sie es hinkommen - Frühachziger Amihard, der stark an DYS und andere alte Boston Bands erinnert. Der Gitarrensound iss so Boston. Grottenschlechtes Cover, aber die Mucke kickt den Part um die Rosette. Ach ja, grad noch mal nachgeschaut - die ham ne split 7" mit VIOLENT MINDS. Und das iss die Band mit ner 7" auf My War Records. Nichtdestotrotz - MOY blitzt. (b)

MONSTER X - Indoctrination - Complete Discography CD (Hater of God) 10.- €
Hot damn am I glad this CD exists. 44 tracks of brutal, metallic hardcore with a grind edge. I never bought as much of this band's material as I knew I should have, so having everything on one convenient CD is awesome. Included herein is their 1993 demo, the split 7"s with Capitalist Casualties, Spazz, and Human Greed, the self-titled 7", the "Attrition" 7", the "To the Positive Youth" 7", and five compilation songs. For those unaware, the band plays fast hardcore rooted in the old school style, but with a really dirty level of distortion and fucking sick low vocal growls (sometimes swaying over towards higher sneers). There's not a whole lot of diversity at all, so over an hour of material can be a bit much for one sitting, but the completeness factor is totally in check, and there are some definite winners here. "Chained for Life" is slower and heavier, introducing some slightly more metallic influences; a lot of the tracks on "Attrition" have more of a thrashy crossover sort of thing happening (see "Unequal Treatment"); "The Machine" is darker and brings in some way metal riffs (awesome), etc. And then the "To the Positive Youth" 7" is all covers, so you get Monster X taking on classics from Straight Ahead, Bold, Youth of Today, The Abused, Unit Pride, Uniform Choice, Chain of Strength, and No for an Answer - which are musically intact but vocally over the top with the insane growls - plus they also drop a cover of Unity's "P.M.A." elsewhere. Good stuff. All of the recording sessions are fine by me. It's raw stuff, but the mixes are generally even, and you can make out what's going on, so fuck it. The "Attrition" EP is slightly thinner, but everything on here's got a lot of intense distortion, and the textures are awesome. It's really quite consistent as a whole. Well done. The packaging is really well handled. The artwork is cool and includes a few small band photos, some flyers and press clippings, all of the lyrics, a list of all the band members and other bands that they've participated in, and most of the original record covers. I really like the lyrics a lot. The topics cover political issues with a few more personal angles or scene related subjects, but the approach isn't generic at all. "And what is god's forgiveness to the piles of ashes that blow across these hot deserts? For all our naïve beliefs only die with us on cultural battlefields." Fans of the band that have all of this stuff on vinyl or whatnot might still want to snag this, but if you're into this stuff and only have an EP or two, this is a great discography that's been handled the way I wish all such collections would be.

MOONBABIES - The Orange Billboard LP (Strange Fruit) 4.- €
Irgendwo geklaut: "Die MOONBABIES sind ein duo aus malmö und bestehen aus carina johansson und ola frick. konnten die beiden mit dem debüt "june and novas" in ihrem heimatland bereits einen achtungserfolg erzielen, setzt man nun zum sprung ins restliche europa an. und "the orange billboard" weiß mit seinem gefälligen indierock durchaus zu überzeugen. besonders durch die male/female vocals bekommen die elf songs ein sympathisches trademark. ein bisserl arg schrammlig oder plätschernd ist das material zwar schon manchmal, doch bewahrt man sich stets einen eigenen charme. außerdem fangen sich die schweden zumeist wieder: in "slomono" beispielsweise geht es gegen ende richtig zur sache, bevor man den überraschten hörer mit "wyomi" wieder versöhnt. ein ähnliches konzept verfolgen die beiden auch mit dem titelsong. dank dem von herrlichen elektronischen effekten unterlegten "sun a.m." hat man sogar einen kleinen hit parat."

MORNING BEFORE - Sunblind CD (Pateline Indutries) 1.- €
Perfekter Emo-Pop Sound aus Deutschland mit Hang zu melancholischen Melodien. Klare, oft unverzehrte und verspielte Gitarren und echt guter Frauengesang machen diese Cd zum Muß für Leute, die mit solcher Musik was anfangen können. Perfekt für das, was es ist. (b)

MORNING BEFORE - The New Romatics CD (Strange Fruit) 4.- €
Die zweite - machen da weiter wo die "Sunblind" aufgehört hat. (b)

MUSTANG - Free Style LP (Dead Alive) 8.- €
Ne relative neue Band aus Japan, die vielleicht von der Hakodate Compilation bekannt sind. Jedenfalls gibt's spitzen Japan-Core der eher klassischen Variante mit den obligatorischen Solis und nem Schuss Motörhead drin. Sind Leute von den geilen CRUDE mit am Start. (b)

MY MINDS MINE - Scenes Of The Complete Annihilation Of This Planet LP 6.50 €
"Diese Kopfgranate dürften grob geschätzt 99,999% aller Metal-Fans nicht überleben, denn die durchgeknallten Holländer haben sich einem Sound verschrieben, der selbst NAPALM DEATH anno 88 oder AGATHOCLES lahm aussehen läßt. Ist man gemein, nennt man die 24 Eruptionen Lärm, sieht man es gelassener, dröhnt ultrakrasser Grindcore/Noise mit wahnsinigem Geheule ("Gesang" kann man das echt net nennen..) seligster Uralt-Zeiten aus den Boxen. Wo NASUM zu durchgeplant sind und wer NAPALM DEATH nach "Scum" zu kommerziell fand, sollte sich umschauen. Superb." (?)

Wieder neues der Mannheimer, klingt nicht mehr ganz so grindig. Sind nun etwas mehr crustigere und gelegentlich nach Portland klingende Riffs vorhanden, gepaart mit dem typisch Mannheimer STACK / MYOWNLIES - Stil! GOIL! (?)

2x der oberhammer an fastcore aus Deutschland. Nur noch ganz wenig da, und Nachpressung nicht in sicht.(r)

Mosh - Thrash - Vermont Straight Edge - Skating - 8oties Hardcore Retro-Galore. Klingt bissel wie alte OXNARD Bands hab ich das Gefühl. Weiss nicht. Drei Songs über Skatebording hier drauf ? haha. Straight forward und fetzig. (b)
